Jeff Bezos is currently weathering a storm of social media criticism following reports that he declined a performance by Lady Gaga at his recent wedding. The reason? A reported \$6 million price tag.
Speculation began circulating earlier this week, suggesting that both Lady Gaga and Elton John were considered to perform at Bezos' wedding to Lauren Sanchez in Venice. Both artists supposedly quoted \$6 million for their respective performances, an offer that Bezos allegedly turned down.
The viral claim triggered a wave of online mockery, with many questioning the billionaire's frugality. Social media users shared screenshots of news reports, commenting, "What’s the use of being a billionaire if you won’t even book Gaga?"
Another user sarcastically remarked that guests were forced to listen to Lady Gaga and Elton John on Spotify because Bezos refused to pay their performance fees.
One comment read, "Imagine being worth a quarter trillion dollars and not spending \$6M on Lady Gaga for your wedding." Another added that it was absurd to use Spotify instead of hiring the legendary artists, considering how much Bezos spent on the location itself.
However, the internet's outrage may be based on inaccurate information. TMZ has since refuted the claims, labeling the story "BS." According to sources close to both Lady Gaga and Elton John, neither artist was ever approached to perform at the wedding, and therefore, no financial demands were ever made.
The \$56 million wedding ultimately featured performances by British singer Ellie Goulding, who sang several songs, and Matteo Bocelli, son of the renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli.
The Venice wedding was a high-profile affair with a guest list that included celebrities like Tom Brady, Orlando Bloom, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and actress Sydney Sweeney.
