ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot, recently experienced a global outage, leaving many users unable to access the service. Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, reported a surge in complaints from users experiencing difficulties with OpenAI's chatbot.
According to reports, approximately 91% of users encountered issues while attempting to access ChatGPT. Around 7% of users were unable to access the website, while the remainder faced login problems. Frustrated users took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice their concerns about the disruption.
OpenAI addressed the situation on its official status page, acknowledging "increased latency and errors affecting both ChatGPT and APIs."
The good news is that the service has since been restored. According to the official OpenAI Status page, the latency issue has been resolved, and "Performance is now back to normal."
The TOI Tech team independently verified the restoration by successfully accessing ChatGPT via both the web and the mobile app, confirming that the service is functioning smoothly without any apparent issues.
