Mohammed Kaif suggests that Yashasvi Jaiswal's dropped catches in the recent Test against England may be due to the straps he wears on his hands. Kaif explains that these straps restrict finger movement, preventing a secure grip on the ball.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's fielding performance has come under scrutiny after he dropped several crucial catches during the Test match against England. Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif, renowned for his exceptional fielding skills, has weighed in on the possible reasons behind Jaiswal's struggles.

Yashasvi Jaiswal drops a catch during the Test match against England at Headingley.

Jaiswal's dropped catches in Leeds proved costly for India, as England successfully chased down a target of 371 to win the match by five wickets. In the first innings, he failed to capitalize on an edge from Ollie Pope, who went on to score a century. He later gave Harry Brook a reprieve, dropping another catch off Bumrah's bowling. In the second innings, he couldn't hold onto a catch after running in from deep to dismiss Duckett, who then scored a match-winning 149.

Kaif believes that the strap around Jaiswal's hand might be a contributing factor.

Kaif explained in a video posted on X: "Why is Yashasvi Jaiswal dropping catches? We are practicing with Duke’s ball, and when we get hurt, we put a strap."

He elaborated that the strap restricts finger movement, hindering a player's ability to securely hold onto the ball. "In such a situation, the fingers are stuck and there is no free movement. You can’t hold onto the catch because the strap becomes a sponge," Kaif stated. "The ball bounces off it, so that’s the drawback. The natural connection with the ball shouldn’t be lost."

The second Test between India and England will commence on July 2 in Birmingham.
