Released by Seattle Orcas, the all-rounder has re-found his mojo at the Texas Super Kings this season

Ranjane's "X-Factor" Evokes Nostalgia for Suryakumar Yadav

Shubham Ranjane, the Texas Super Kings (TSK) all-rounder, is quickly making a name for himself in the world of cricket. His presence on the field is immediately noticeable, characterized by an undeniable energy and a palpable self-assurance that he isn't afraid to showcase. Ranjane's all-encompassing approach, whether with bat, ball, or relentless fielding, highlights his commitment to dominating every moment.

Ranjane's match-winning innings for TSK

Ranjane's explosive innings propelled TSK to victory.

This same vibrant energy resonated during his time in the Mumbai dressing room, leaving a lasting impression on his teammates. Years later, his impact is still remembered by those who shared that space with him. After Ranjane's recent impressive innings of 70 off 45 balls in the Major League Cricket (MLC), Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain and former teammate, took to social media to express his admiration. Yadav's nostalgic post highlighted Ranjane's inherent "X-factor," suggesting that this is just the beginning of his cricketing journey.

Ranjane himself emphasizes his unwavering dedication: "Even if I play gully cricket it is all intense...Whatever the situation, I should be there and get my team to win...It's all about that game changing attitude...if you need two sixes, I want to be the one to finish it. Not risking it to leave it for someone else," Ranjane stated in an interview with Cricbuzz.

This "owning the moment" mentality has always defined him. In 2019, Ranjane showcased his resilience by playing a Times Shield game during the day and trialing for Rajasthan Royals in the evening. Tasked with chasing 60 runs in pairs alongside Shimron Hetmyer, facing formidable bowlers like Oshane Thomas and Keemo Paul, Ranjane dominated, scoring 52 of the required runs and securing the win with four balls to spare. This display of brilliance is the same "X-factor" that triggered Suryakumar's nostalgic recollection.

Despite a setback with the Seattle Orcas, who released him just before the domestic draft, Ranjane's fortunes turned when the TSK promptly selected him as their number one pick for $80,000. This significant payday offers stability for a cricketer in America, where income can be uncertain outside of major leagues.

Ranjane appreciates the clarity and support he has received from the TSK: "I was given a lot of clarity from day one on what my role was going to be...I was always made to feel like an integral part of the unit...They gave me confidence and things started falling into place...The feedback mechanism was in place for every session. It gave me immense confidence."

With a strong track record in tournaments like the USPL, Ranjane aspires to represent the national team, aiming to fill the need for a batting all-rounder with seam-up capabilities, a void the USA team currently faces. Although his slower deliveries haven't been fully utilized in the MLC yet, his clean ball-striking could prove invaluable for the USA in the upcoming T20 World Cup, especially in subcontinental conditions. And, of course, there's that "X-factor" that Suryakumar Yadav holds in such high regard.
