X Corp., formerly known as Twitter, has taken action against over 500,000 accounts in India for violations of its platform policies. The bans, reported by Reuters, occurred between January 26 and February 25.
The social media giant banned 506,173 accounts for promoting content related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. Additionally, 1,982 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism. In total, X Corp. removed 508,155 accounts during the specified period.
The platform also processed approximately 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms, and received around 41 requests related to account suspensions.
X Corp. stated, "We overturned 1 of these account suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the situation. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended." The company also acknowledged receiving 71 requests regarding general account inquiries during the reporting period.
This recent action follows a similar crackdown between December 26 and January 25, during which X Corp. banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India. In that same period, 1,945 accounts were banned for promoting terrorism.
To avoid suspension from X Corp., users should adhere to the platform's policies. Specifically, refrain from posting content related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. By following these guidelines, users can minimize the risk of account suspension.
