Zimbabwe will play host to Sri Lanka in a series consisting of two One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). All matches are scheduled to take place at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. The series kicks off on August 29.
Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series. "We are delighted to confirm Sri Lanka's visit to Zimbabwe for what we expect to be a thrilling and competitive series," he stated.
The T20I leg of the tour holds particular significance for the Zimbabwean side. It serves as a crucial preparatory stage ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final, which Zimbabwe will host starting September 19. This tournament presents Zimbabwe with an opportunity to qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2027.
Makoni further emphasized the importance of the series, saying, "Matches between our two nations have always produced entertaining cricket, and this tour comes at a crucial time for our team as we prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign."
This series marks the beginning of a busy period for Zimbabwe. Following the Sri Lanka tour, they are also scheduled to host South Africa and New Zealand for two-match Test series. A T20I tri-series featuring all three nations is also planned.
