Rishabh Pant stands on the verge of joining a select group of visiting batsmen as India prepares for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, commencing on July 2.
Rishabh Pant eyes historic feat in England
Following his twin centuries at Headingley, the 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman is just one century away from inclusion in a legendary list that includes Don Bradman, Rahul Dravid, and Brian Lara.
Pant showcased his incredible talent in the first Test at Leeds, smashing 134 and 118 across both innings. Despite India's five-wicket defeat after setting England a target of 371, Pant's audacious stroke-making and resilience were a major talking point.
He currently boasts 808 runs in 10 Tests in England, averaging 42.52 with four centuries. His highest score on English soil – a blistering 146 off 111 balls – came at Edgbaston in 2022. That innings saw him rescue India from a precarious 98 for 5, ultimately helping them post a first-innings total of 416. Although India lost that match, Pant's innings remains one of the finest by an Indian wicketkeeper overseas.
If Pant manages another century at Edgbaston, he will become only the seventh visiting batter to score centuries in three consecutive Tests in England. This exclusive list includes Don Bradman, Warren Bardsley, Charles Macartney, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid, and Daryl Mitchell. Dravid, having achieved the feat in 2002, remains the only Indian on the list.
Pant, who already holds the record for most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper and most runs by an Asian wicketkeeper in SENA countries, has a golden opportunity to further cement his place in cricket history.
